What makes NoBottle™ work?

The lightweight bottle’s creation, mass production, and its ultimate durability are an engineering triumph. Our Research and Development (R&D) teams responded to the challenge with:

Flex™ technology: putting strength in flexibility

Until now, making a lighter plastic bottle involved adding ribs to give the bottle more strength. But the added stability made the bottle more brittle and less attractive. To create NoBottle™, Sidel thought outside the box and developed its Flex™ technology, combining:

  • The flexibility of PET (polyethylene terephthalate, the most widely used plastic to make bottles for beverages) to create a more elastic bottle that flexes instead of breaking,
  • PET shape memory so that the filled bottle springs back to its original shape even when squeezed and compressed during manufacturing or shipping,
  • Shape freedom: Flex™ offers a wide range of shapes and designs. NoBottle™ currently presented by Sidel is just one of myriad design possibilities.

FlexLine customized production line

Packaging a bottle this light is no easy task when every step in the manufacturing process presents a challenge. So we developed the customized FlexLine that guarantees flawless packaging of NoBottle™ on a line that is:

  • Environmentally friendly, consuming less energy, water and raw materials during manufacturing, and
  • A sound economic investment for companies, producing bottled water faster and at lower cost.
