Savings meter calculation method
To calculate the tons of plastic saved by NoBottle™, we used the following calculation method.
1/ We surveyed all bottling lines that produce bottles using Flex™ technology.
2/ For each production line, we calculated the grams of plastic saved by comparing the weight of the Flex™ bottle to the weight of the old bottle.
3/ We multiplied that figure by the number of new bottles produced until March 31, 2008, the day before the site launch.
4/ We added together the savings tallied for each production line, and that gave us the meter’s starting point.
5/ Then we calculated savings for one day of production: that figure is regularly added to the meter.
6/ As soon as new bottling lines produce a Flex™ bottle, we add the new savings, and the meter numbers rise faster.
